This cocktail was suggested to us by Dan Baxter from Southpointe Country Club. He had enjoyed a similar tequila-based cocktail published in a book of recipes by a Cincinnati bartender. The original drink was called Hot Tijuana Nights. Dan felt that our Bassett Town whiskey would be an excellent substitute for the tequila and, to our pleasure, it worked perfectly! We thought the name, Blazing Pledge, sounded more colonial.
Ingredients
2 oz. Bassett Town Whiskey
1 oz. fresh squeezed white grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz. jalapeño simple syrup
Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into coupe glass. Garnish with a jalapeño.
Jalapeño Simple Syrup 1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 chopped jalapeño pepper
Boil in a small saucepan to dissolve sugar. Cool completely. Strain out the jalapeño.
